Description

The staff of the Prairie Fork Conservation Area approached IDPgroup with a need to re-develop their website with an emphasis on ease of maintenance. Based on our reputation among several groups within the University of Missouri's College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, the staff at Prairie Fork knew that we would understand their needs. Their staff consists of land managers and researchers, but no one with the skills necessary for web design or marketing.

The group's focus is on three fronts: education, research and land management. It was established that these three areas had very different user groups and that the home page would immediately direct a visitor to the proper area. For economy, each area of the site shares resources whenever possible. Include files were created for the news, photo gallery and projects to allow for easier updating and overall simplicity. Of particular significance was the creation of a modular system for uploading and associating an image to almost everything that is held in the database (i.e. news, projects, educational programs, facilities and the gallery itself). On the public side, I also developed a modular photo gallery that would fit into every application.

Fortunately, the group was able to provide quite a few quality photographs of Prairie Fork to use with random photograph code to give visitors a sense of the area. The site's design was initially inspired by the websites for the National Park Service and the Missouri Conservation Department. I believe that it achieved its own identity wile keeping a "park" website feel. The site is built using XHTML and ASP for complete separation of content from structure. The site also passes validation from the W3C.

* Agency Work: This project was produced while working as Interactive Director at an agency in Mid-Missouri. All agency work that I display, unless noted, was executed by me from concept to design and code.
