Description

Academy Castle is a bustling daycare and dance school in Columbia, Missouri. Eager to make their presence on the internet, the owners wanted to develop a website that would represent the two main aspects of their business plus a small retail business that sells dance clothing called the Queen's Closet.

The primary technical requirements of the project were to assist the signup process for both preschool enrollment and dance classes. Additionally, the client wanted to be able to display the product selection from the Queen's Closet, manage an event calendar and extensive trophy listing and have a photo gallery.

The design does not so much reflect the actual feel of the business (a castle-themed building that is fairly noisy with children and painted with bright purple and pink accent colors), but attempts to create a more serene interface for the adults who would be visiting the site.

The site was programmed with XHTML and CSS to achieve 100% separation of content from presentation. An ASP function was created to achieve the replacement of the first letter of the sub-headers with fancy cursive GIFs. By creating this design effect programmatically, the special header can be deployed across the site without any need to create new graphics in future site modifications. By maintaining live text, the site headers are also fully accessible.

ASP programming was also employed in conjunction with an Access database to develop a content management system that allows the client full control over most aspects of the site through easy web-based forms.

* Agency Work: This project was produced while working as Interactive Director at an agency in Mid-Missouri. All agency work that I display, unless noted, was executed by me from concept to design and code.
