Named "Best Rec Center" in the September 2005 issue of Sports Illustrated On Campus, the $50 million renovation of the student recreation center at the University of Missouri, Columbia needed an online companion. The immense challenge of pixelating the energy and expansiveness fell to my tallented comrade Ben Harben.
How do you capture an energetic facility with a plasma TV on every wall and full of college students? The solution that we came up with strives to find a balance between the visual energy and enough peace to let your eyes find the real content.
The technical challenge came from the need to organize and automate the site's content management among a large group of users. Everyone from the student staff worker to the photographer, copywriter and administrators have the opportunity to contribute content to the website in their own ways. As a result, the site's content is in constant change--a reflection of the energy and activity of the facility itself.
